a stellar list of players, including Mark Fosson (vocals, guitar, banjo, mando, dulcimer, spoons), Edward Tree (dobro, harmonium, guitars), Dave Beyer(drums, percussion), Gabe Witcher (fiddle), Bob Glaub (bass), David Jackson (bass, accordion, hambone), Sarah Coleman (vocals). Top-of-the-line acoustic country/folk with well-crafted lyrics, strong memorable melodies, fine fingerpicking guitar and overall excellent musicianship.
The Lost Takoma Sessions - CD
These songs were recorded for John Fahey's Takoma label in 1977, just before they folded. They've been sitting idle all these years but thanks to the persistence of my cousin, Tiffany Anders, they will be out on Drag City Records July 25. If you're a fan of Fahey, Kottke, Basho etc. you'll definitely like this collection of 12-string instrumentals.
Imaginational Anthem Vol. 3 - CD
Guitar heads, mark your calendars for April 8: that’s when Tompkins Square drops Imaginational Anthem Vol. 3, the third in a series of compilations devoted to acoustic guitar mavericks past and present. The label will also release all three volumes together as a box set on the same date. Like its two predecessors, IAV3 taps both young talents such as Cian Nugent (Ireland), Ben Reynolds (UK), and Shawn David McMillen (Austin, TX) alongside unsung heroes from decades past, including banjo master George Stavis, who recorded an album for Vanguard in the ‘60s, Richard Crandell, whose rare private press works now stand to be rediscovered, and Mark Fosson, whose lost 1977 Takoma album was recently issued. All three volumes of were compiled by Tompkins Square label founder Josh Rosenthal.
