Jesus On A Greyhound

(Mark Fosson)
I saw Jesus
on a Greyhound
in Gorman, CA.
He was sittin' in the
back seat smilin'
so peacefully.
I said hey man
what's the story 'bout
eternal glory? He said
mister I'm readin'
would you just let me be?

But the whole bus
kept starin' so he
put down his Newsweek
and said OK people,
here goes once again.
I been preachin' this sermon till I'm
blue in the face-maybe this time it'll
finally sink in.
He stood up and
began to begin,
and someone up front
dropped a pen.

If you treat people nice
maybe they'll do the same,
I don't know why that's
so hard to grasp.
Why do you keep causin'
each other such pain.
didn't I teach you
better than that?
Stealin' is bad and
Lyin' ain't right.
If you can't see the light
get some glasses.
Killin' ain't cool,
be kind don't be cruel
and try not to cheat
on your taxes.
My God, you're as slow
as molasses!

Hey people
where are you goin'?
Do you have any clue
where you're bound?
Are your souls on the
road to salvation,
or are your wheels only
spinnin' around?
Then he gave us a sign
and sat down, and nobody
uttered a sound as
we drove through
another small town.

As we pulled into Fresno
he reached for his suitcase
and said this is where
we must part.
I hope you've been listenin'
to what I've been sayin'
and I hope that you
take it to heart.
Then he stepped from the bus and he waved us goodbye, said see you all later, 'round about judgement day.
Lit up a cigar with the
end of his finger and said
as th bus pulled away...

Hey people
where are you goin'?
Do you have any clue where you're bound?
Are your souls on the
road to salvation, or
are your wheels only
spinnin' around?
Are your souls on the
road to salvation, are you
headed for holier ground?
Or are your wheels only
spinnin' around?
